چکیده

ÐIn this paper, we study distributed path reservation protocols for multiplexed all-optical interconnection networks. The path reservation protocols negotiate the reservation and establishment of connections that arrive dynamically to the network. These protocols can be applied to both wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and time division multiplexing (TDM) networks. Two classes of protocols are discussed: forward reservation protocols and backward reservation protocols. Simulations of multiplexed two-dimensional torus interconnection networks are used to evaluate and compare the performance of the protocols and to study the impact of system parameters, such as the multiplexing degree and the network size, speed, and load, on both network throughput and communication delay. The simulation results show that, in most cases, the backward reservation schemes provide better performance than their forward reservation counterparts. Index TermsÐOptical interconnection networks, routing protocols, mesh-like networks, path reservation, wavelength-division multiplexing, time-division multiplexing, distributed control.

Dynamic and Compiled Communication in Optical Time{division{multiplexed Point{to{point Networks Dynamic and Compiled Communication in Optical Time{division{multiplexed Point{to{point Networks

Optical interconnection networks are promising networks for future supercomput-ers due to their large bandwidths. However, the speed mismatch between the fast optical data transmission and the relatively slow electronic control components poses challenges for designing an optical network whose large bandwidth can be utilized by end users. The Time{Division{Multiplexing (TDM) technique alleviate...

Adaptive and Global Routing for Multiplexed Optical Communication on Mesh and Torus Networks

Optical interconnection networks have the potential for achieving low latency and high throughput. Moreover , the high bandwidth of an optical link can be shared by many virtual channels through the use of either multiple wavelengths or multiple time slots. In this paper, routing algorithms are studied for mesh-like ar-chitectures with path-multiplexed or link-multiplexed communications. Determ...

Hybrid Media Access Protocols for a DSM System Based on Optical WDM Networks

Scalable, hierarchical, all-optical Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) networks for interconnection in distributed cluster-based computing systems have been recently considered. Hybrid access protocols combining reservation and pre-allocation have been studied for this type of network which supports a distributed shared memory (DSM) environment. The objectives of the protocols are reduced av...

Selective Tone Reservation Method for PAPR Reduction of Spatially Multiplexed OFDM Systems

Tone Reservation (TR) is one of the well-known methods for PAPR reduction of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In this method some sub-carriers are reserved for PAPR reduction and the symbols in these sub-carriers are selected such that the PAPR of the OFDM frame is minimized. In this paper, the iterative algorithm introduced earlier for TR method in single antenna OFDM...

Distributed Control in Optical Wdm Networks

This paper describes and evaluates distributed wavelength reservation protocols for all{optical WDM networks. These protocols are essential for applying WDM techniques to large scale all{optical networks. The protocols ensure that the wavelengths on the links along a path are reserved before communication takes place. A message is transmitted using the reserved wavelengths and remains in the op...
